How To Repair Tassels And Fringe

Claudia has been writing about crafts online for many years. She is an gorging crafter who has been creating for nearly of her life.

DIY Carpet Fringe Repair

A few months agone when I was vacuuming, I rolled across a corner of my living room rug and the fringe got defenseless in the vacuum cleaner. Upon further inspection, virtually 7 inches of the rug fringe had pulled away from the main carpeting. Luckily it was non completely torn off, just pulled dorsum.

I called a carpet repair shop and was told that it would exist quite expensive to fix. In improver, I would have to accept the carpet, which is very large, to the shop. Being on a budget, I decided to fix it myself and it turned out to be an easy project.

And so far, the fix has held and it looks similar it used to. I even vacuum over it with no problems.

Rug Repair Supplies

  • Fishing line: Information technology's clear and extremely strong. I used a four-pound weight because it is thinner and fits well through needles.
  • Tapestry needles: There are many different kinds and I needed i with a very sharp point to become through the tough carpeting.
  • Glue: I used a strong craft glue that was labeled as skillful for fabrics, waterproof, was marked equally not-flammable, and had a flexible hold.
  • Pair of scissors
  • Newspaper
  • Toothpicks
Threading the needle.

Threading the needle.

Step one: Set up to Sew

  1. Take a long strand of fishing line and thread one end through the needle. Yous'll need a long enough piece so that it can be doubled.
  2. Pull the threaded end through the center until the thread is doubled.
  3. Tie a knot where the ends meet.

Stride two: Sew the Fringe On

  1. Starting on the backside of the rug, insert the needle through to the front side. This tin can exist extremely tough. Rugs are thick and can have some glue on the edge that is difficult to penetrate. Make sure to use a abrupt needle.
  2. Bring the needle up through the front and make sure to catch the fringe strip. Continue sewing until finished. In my case, the fringe tore off on the corner and needed to be folded over to consummate.
  3. To brand information technology extra secure, you tin can double dorsum and sew two times. This is advisable if the rug gets used and vacuumed a lot.
  4. When finished, necktie a double knot as shut to the rug surface as possible. Prune the thread, leaving the knot, so the fishing line doesn't unravel.

Footstep iii: Glue the Carpeting Fringe

Before using any gum, make sure to test it on the rug you lot are repairing. Place a small-scale dab on an obscure part of the carpet that cannot be seen. Once yous have adamant that it is safety to use, keep.

  1. Identify a newspaper underneath the carpet so information technology does not get stuck to the floor.
  2. Place some glue on the dorsum of the rug where the fringe ends and, using a toothpick, smear it around so that it covers the fringe. Remember to just put glue on the backside of the rug.
  3. Let it dry completely earlier placing information technology back on the floor.
This repaired rug looks almost as good as it did when I first bought it.

This repaired rug looks well-nigh as skilful as information technology did when I first bought information technology.
